If you have a first generation Xbox 360 Kinect that you are not using, you can repurpose it as a webcam for Skype on Windows 10!

I happen to have purchased the Kinect add on kit previously which includes the external power supply and USB cable adaptor.  I was lucky.

How to connect a Kinect

If you have the original Xbox 360 Kinect, you have to download and install the version 1.7 for both the SDK and tools.  Follow the instructions to the letter the sequence of installation.

Kinect for PC and Skype means KinectCam

Once the SDK and tools are installed, Kinect will be recognised as a device in Windows 10 but Skype cannot recognise it yet.  You have to install drivers for Skype to recognise it as a webcam.  You have to edit the install.bat and uninstall.bat for the .NET version 4 folder.

One more thing.  The driver must be unzipped and kept in a permanent folder.  It cannot be erased as .NET will use it when Skype is running.

That’s it.  Enjoy!
